Why should you take vitamin K2?
Vitamin K is essential for the blood clotting process, where "K" stands for coagulation. Vitamin K interacts with calcium and vitamin D to maintain normal bone structure and bone density. Calcium strengthens the bone structure, while vitamin D promotes the absorption of calcium from the diet and vitamin K regulates the use of calcium in the body.
Vitamin K2 used in this product from Närokällan is in the form of menakonin-7, which is an easily absorbable and fat-soluble form of vitamin K. It is not taken from an animal source and products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. It is produced by fermentation of starch, not from soy.
- Vitamin K contributes to normal blood coagulation
- Vitamin K contributes to normal bone structure
Fat is required for absorption, and although vitamin K can be stored, the body needs a continuous supplement through the diet. The intestinal flora produces a certain amount of vitamin K, which reduces the risk of deficiency.
How to get vitamin K naturally?
Cabbage, green leafy vegetables and some oils are good sources of vitamin K1 (phylloquinone). Meat, liver, egg yolk and dairy products contain higher levels of vitamin K2 (menaquinones). Vitamin K2 is formed by bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract of animals, but can also be found in higher concentrations in fermented foods and algae. Vitamin K2 is also formed by intestinal bacteria in us humans, but not in sufficient quantity to meet the body's needs.
Who should not take vitamin K2?
People treated with blood-thinning drugs containing a vitamin K antagonist are sometimes advised to limit consumption of foods rich in vitamin K because the vitamin affects blood clotting. You should therefore not combine supplementation of vitamin K with blood thinners without a doctor's advice.
